Welcome to the “never a dull moment” intersecting worlds of human resources and labor and employment law! The goals of this Blog are simple – to inform, educate and entertain.  And with employers and employees doing crazy things in the workplace everyday, I have much fodder to work with.

Who am I?  As British goofball spy Austin Powers once said:  “allow myself to introduce myself.”  I’m Mitchell (“Mitch”) Quick, an attorney with almost 25 years of management side labor and employment law experience, and a Partner in the Employment Relations Practice Group of the law firm Michael Best & Friedrich in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.  Michael Best has one of the largest management side labor and employment law teams in the great State of Wisconsin.   I am a “lifer,” having been there my entire (cough cough) illustrious career.

I collaborate with HR Managers and other company leaders in two primary capacities.  First, I counsel and strategize with proactive employers on how to deal with difficult personnel matters in advance of their taking any actions.  By doing so, I help put companies in the best position to defend against any future labor and/or employment claims.  Second, if the unfortunate but all too common occurs and a claim is filed, I aggressively defend my clients in the litigation process.

Although I deal with all types of employment disputes, my “bread and butter” is counseling and representing companies of all stripes and sizes to avoid and defend against discrimination and retaliation charges.  Literally hundreds and hundreds of them.  I also have a special (and some would say twisted) focus on counseling and defending against wage and hour claims under the Federal Fair Labor Standards Act and state laws.

I have apparently fooled a lot of people into believing that I know what I am talking about.  Every year since 2009 I have been recognized in The Best Lawyers in America, published by Woodward/White, Inc. in the area of Management-side Labor and Employment Law.  Several times I have been named to Milwaukee’s M Magazine “Leading Lawyer” list, and recognized as a “Wisconsin Super Lawyer” in the area of Labor and Employment Relations. Finally, I have an “AV” rating, (the highest) from the respected Martindale-Hubbell.

I am a “BadgerGolden Gopher.”  I graduated from the University of Minnesota Law School in 1990, Magna Cum Laude, where I was a member of the Law Review.  Before that, I graduated from the University of Wisconsin – Madison with a double major in Political Science and Psychology, and minors in sarcasm and alcoholic beverages (a requirement at the UW).  With those “highly employable” degrees, I was left with no choice but to go to law school!
